A timeless heirloom cherry tomato that’s been charming gardeners for over 250 years.
Abundant clusters of sunny, lemon-yellow, pear-shaped fruits (¾–1 inch long, ~½ oz each) with thin, tender skin and a bright, sweet, low-acid flavor. Mildly fruity, juicy, and refreshingly crisp—perfect for snacking, salads. Vigorous indeterminate vines grow 6–10 feet with wispy regular-leaf foliage and produce relentlessly from mid-summer until frost. Easy, disease-resistant, and famously crack-resistant despite the delicate skin. Give them a tall cage or trellis and plenty of sun, and they’ll reward you with hundreds—sometimes thousands—of glowing little pears.
HISTORY: Documented in European gardens by the late 1700s and first illustrated in color in 1805 by German botanist Johann C. Doell. It was already popular in American seed catalogs by the 1850s and offered commercially in the U.S. as early as 1863 (James Vick) under the name “Yellow Pear.” Believed to pre-date its red counterpart, it’s one of the oldest surviving tomato varieties still widely grown today—essentially unchanged for over two centuries and a living piece of horticultural history.
