The quintessential modern cherry tomato: unstoppable, kid-approved, candy-sweet perfection in bite-sized form.

Bright red, perfectly round ¾–1 inch globes (½–¾ oz each) grow in long, elegant trusses of 15–25 fruits that ripen uniformly. Sugar levels routinely hit 10–12 Brix—true candy sweetness with a clean, bright finish and just enough acid to keep it lively. Skin is thin but tough; fruits hang on the vine for weeks without cracking and store on the counter longer than most cherries.

Vigorous indeterminate plants grow 6–8 ft, start producing early, and churn out buckets of fruit until frost. Excellent disease resistance and heat tolerance make it one of the most bulletproof cherries you can grow—ideal for beginners or anyone who wants hassle-free abundance.

HISTORY: Bred in the late 1960s–early 1970s by the Petoseed Company as a high-sugar, open-pollinated alternative to the hybrid cherry tomatoes then dominating the market. Released commercially in 1977 under the name ‘Sweetie’, it quickly became a backyard and market-garden staple because it combined hybrid-level sweetness and productivity with seed-saving freedom. Although developed by a big seed house, it was never patented and has remained in the public domain ever since—now preserved and shared by countless gardeners and small seed companies. A rare case of a corporate-bred variety that became a true modern heirloom.
