My absolute favorite go-to tomato—hands down the one I’d keep if I could only grow a single red cherry. The world is full of red cherries, but Ruthje is in a class by itself: intensely aromatic, perfectly balanced sweet-tart flavor, bulletproof disease resistance, and effortless productivity.

Bright red, slightly heart-shaped cocktail fruits (~1½ oz each) ripen early to mid-season and arrive in heavy clusters that just keep coming until frost. They hang on the vine virtually forever—staying flawless without cracking, softening, or dropping—even through humid summers and cool, wet fall weather.

HISTORY: Bred in 1996 by Ulrike Behrendt of Kultursaat e.V. (a German organic breeding cooperative) as a cross between a seedless cocktail tomato and a hybrid salad type, Ruthje was selected over years for superior flavor, disease resistance, and low-input performance—first sold in 2008 and now a favorite in biodynamic and organic seed circles.

Sold as a single plant in a 3.5" pot.
