Medium to large, averaging 5 inches in length and 3 inches in diameter with 3-4 lobes and a thick green stem. The smooth skin is firm, glossy, and pale green when young transforming to lilac or deep purple when mature. The flesh is pale green, and dark purple kinds turn green when cooked. Fruits are crunchy with a sweet, semi-bitter taste.
