Black Cherry is a vigorous, indeterminate cherry tomato that produces round, 1 inch fruits on long trusses. The skin is a striking deep mahogany-brown with dark green shoulders, turning almost black when fully ripe, while the juicy flesh inside is brick-red with a complex, sweet-smoky flavor that combines rich tomato tang, mild sweetness, and a hint of earthiness — widely regarded as one of the best-tasting purple/black cherries available. Plants grow 5–8 ft tall with regular-leaf foliage, set fruit early for a colored cherry, and remain extremely productive until frost.
HISTORY: Developed by the late Florida breeder Vince Sapp of Tomato Growers Supply Company and first released commercially in 2003. Sapp created the open-pollinated variety through repeated selection from an accidental cross that appeared in his growing fields, believed to involve a black tomato (possibly Black Plum or a similar purple type) and a red cherry parent. Since its debut, Black Cherry has become one of the most popular and widely grown purple cherry tomatoes worldwide, offered by nearly every major heirloom and specialty seed company.
Sold as a single plant in a 3.5" pot.
