'Calabrian diavolicchio' translates from Italian to English as Little Devil.
Also known as Calabrian bunch pepper, it is grown mostly in Calabria, in the southern region of Italy.
A very productive variety; conical upward growing peppers are arranged in bunches. Pods are about an inch long beginning green and maturing to an intense fiery red with a wonderful spicy flavor. Plants are short in size, and very compact .
Calabrian chillies aren’t really known for their heat, rather, they are known for their interesting flavor profile - salty, smoky and fruity.
A great and easy use for the Calabrian chilli is to use it to make chilli oil. This is really easy and has a wide variety of uses you’ll never tire of. Simply add some finely chopped chillies to a jar of oil, seed and all, and refrigerate for a few days. The chillies will slowly infuse the oil with its smoky sweet flavor - perfect for drizzling over salads, onto pizza, and cooking meat with.
