HISTORY: Early Wonder was bred and introduced by the Burgess Seed and Plant Company in the early 1950s (some sources specify 1950) as an extra-early, space-saving variety for home gardeners, derived from crosses involving early heirlooms like Bison to emphasize compactness and productivity.  While some early descriptions and strains refer to the fruits as red or pinkish-red, a dark pink version became prominent through seed saving and distribution, leading to occasional naming as "Early Wonder Pink" to distinguish it, though it's often sold under the original name.  It gained popularity in the U.S. for northern climates remaining a favorite for its reliability despite minor color variations in modern grows.
