Yes, you read that correctly.
Salad-sized red fruits with pronounced pointed tips, are born in clusters on mananagble vines. Fruits are more meaty than seedy with a well-balanced tomato flavor - more on the acid side than sweet, though.
Aside from the novelty of its name, you should add this to your garden for the sheer amounts of fruits it produces - even not grown well, it's almost silly how much this small in stature plant produces.
Fruits are meaty enough to be used as saucers or due to their size, canned/frozen whole.
HISTORY: Back in 2012, I received seed from an internet friend who goes by the handle KYGREY on almost all internet boards. He included this message:
"Karen, Sorry about the low quantity of BBT seeds but all I received from the source was 6 seeds and I have not grown it out. The source was a naturalist/hippie sort of guy; great guy but a bit eccentric [Bob Hanthorn]. The origin is obscure and I am not sure what it is supposed to look like except the name gives indication of its shape. The seeds you and I have may be the only ones left now. When you try it, please let me know if you do or do not get germination."
[Editor: Does this imply that the seed was old? I, wonder. More about this below]
I did grow it out, at least three times in the last 10 years (2013 was the first) with the last being this past summer (2022). They have consistently produced the fruits photographed above.
At the time of my writing this, I found three other sources listing photographs/seeds for sale for BBT (Bob's Boomtown Titty). ALL of them show photos of a cherry-sized, dark red fruit with 'notorious low production'. No seed sources were stated.
Two possible scenarios: The first is that Bob sent seed to someone other than just KYGreg and BBT was not stable to begin with and produced two similarly shaped fruits but not much else. The second possibility is that KYGreg also grew it out and he sent out seeds, therefore the cross originated in his garden.
That being said, because I started with seed from the 'original source', grew plants and bagged the blossoms to ensure purity, my genetics are pure and feel comfortable that what I am offering is the original BBT.
All the 'historical logistics' aside, who doesn't want a Boomtown Titty in thier garden? :::wink::::
